Why Plattsburgh Pulse Isn’t on Social Media

At a time when everything lives on social media, choosing not to be there might seem… unusual.
But for us, it’s intentional.
Plattsburgh Pulse was created to be a central place for life and leisure in Plattsburgh — a way to bring everything together in one clear, easy-to-navigate space. Not another feed to scroll. Not more noise to sort through.
Just a better way to see what’s happening — and actually show up.
Social media is great for a lot of things — but it isn’t built for meaningful discovery. Things get buried. Algorithms decide what you see. And more often than not, the focus shifts away from the community and onto the platform itself.
We didn’t want that.
Instead, we built The Weekly Beat — a weekly publication that puts everything in one place: local events, local businesses, and local artists — thoughtfully curated and easy to explore.
No endless scrolling. No distractions. No fighting an algorithm.
Just a clear snapshot of what’s happening each week.
But beyond simplicity, there’s something deeper behind the decision.
Without the constant noise of social media, there’s more room for something that often gets lost — a more personal connection between people and their community.
When a business is featured, it’s not just another post in a feed. It’s a story. A presence.
Something people can actually take in.
When you discover something through The Weekly Beat, it’s intentional — not just something that happened to show up while scrolling.
And that changes the experience.
Our goal isn’t to be the voice everyone follows — it’s to be the voice behind the community.
We’re not here to be the main character in the conversation. We’re here to highlight the people, places, and moments that already exist within it.
Because when people feel a genuine connection — to a place, a business, or an experience — they show up differently.
And that’s what this is really about.
Not just awareness — but experience.
Not just visibility — but connection.
What’s Next
As we continue to grow, there are still ways to be part of it — and help shape what this becomes. You can participate in a Pulse Challenge, or simply share a moment from around Plattsburgh using #plattsburghpulse.
We’ll be featuring community-submitted Pulse Moments in upcoming issues — highlighting the people, places, and experiences that make this area what it is.
Stay tuned as we continue to grow and reimagine Plattsburgh — together.
